Physiotherapy in Retirement Living
& Residential Care

Specialist Physiotherapy Where Your Residents Live

For older adults in retirement villages and residential care, the right physiotherapy isn’t just rehabilitation - it’s the difference between independence and decline, between a confident return from hospital and a frightening loss of function, between watching life narrow and continuing to do the things that matter.

We deliver physiotherapy in some of Auckland’s most premium retirement and care facilities, and we hold ourselves to the highest standards of care that those settings demand. Whether your resident has been referred by their GP or specialist, is recovering from an ACC-covered injury, or has engaged us privately, the care we deliver is the same: evidence-based, personalised, and genuinely focused on what they want to achieve.

RETIREMENT LIVING

Stay strong. Stay independent. Keep doing what you love.

Moving into a retirement village is often a positive choice - the chance to right-size, free up time and enjoy a new chapter without the burden of a big house and garden. But it’s also a moment when active, intentional investment in physical health pays the biggest dividends. The residents who thrive over the long term are the ones who keep loading their bones, training their balance and challenging their strength.

That’s where we come in.

Retirement village living is your home, your routine, your choices. We work with that - not around it. You decide what your goals are, how often you want to be seen, and what you want to focus on.

Our role is to give you the clinical expertise, the programme and the encouragement; the direction is yours.

Who This Is For

Independent living, serviced apartment and care suite residents who want to maintain - or build - the strength, mobility and confidence to keep doing the things they love. Whether that’s golf, bowls, gardening, travel, walking the grandkids to school or simply moving freely around their own home, we design programmes that support those goals.

What We Offer In Retirement Villages

• Wellness assessments and screening. A baseline picture of strength, balance, mobility and falls risk - and a clear plan for what to work on next.
• Strength, power and bone-loading programmes. The exercise prescription that genuinely moves the needle for older adults - designed and progressed by physios who specialise in this work.
• Falls prevention and balance training. Confidence on your feet is everything. Our programmes are progressive, challenging and evidence-based.
• Group exercise classes. Where facilities support it, we run small-group strength, balance and conditioning classes that residents actually enjoy attending - including Pilates and ACC- accredited Live Stronger for Longer classes designed specifically to reduce falls and build confidence on your feet.

• Pain management and injury rehabilitation. Hands-on therapy and exercise prescription for osteoarthritis, back pain, post-surgical recovery and other persistent issues.
• Bone health and osteoporosis programmes. See our Bone Health & Osteoarthritis page for our specialised approach.
• Pre and post-hospital rehabilitation. Stronger going in, recovering further coming out.
• Travel-ready programmes. Preparing residents for the cruise, the family wedding overseas, the bucket-list trip - and rebuilding when they get home.

RESIDENTIAL AGED CARE & DEMENTIA CARE

Maintaining function, dignity and quality of life

Who This is For

Rest home, hospital level and dementia care residents - including those with complex medical conditions, neurological changes, end-of-life needs or significant cognitive impairment.

What We Offer In Residential Care

Functional Maintenance Programmes: Keeping residents moving, transferring and weight-bearing for as long as safely possible - every step preserved is independence preserved.

Falls Prevention and Post-Fall Rehabilitation: Targeted assessment after falls, root-cause analysis with the care team, and rehabilitation to restore confidence and capacity.

Post-Hospital Rehabilitation: Bridging the vulnerable transition back from hospital with focused rehab to restore function and reduce readmission risk.

Pain Management: Hands-on therapy and gentle exercise approaches for osteoarthritis, back pain and other persistent conditions - including for residents who can’t articulate their pain clearly.

Dementia-Informed Physiotherapy: Adapting our communication, environment and exercise approach for residents living with cognitive impairment. We understand that how we deliver care matters as much as what we deliver.

Neurological Rehabilitation: Stroke, Parkinson’s and other neurological conditions - see our Brain Health  Neurological Rehabilitation page.

End-of-Life and Palliative Support: Maintaining comfort, dignity and meaningful movement when that’s what matters most. Sometimes this means helping a resident sit out for a family visit, or transfer with ease for personal care.

Care Team Consultation: Advising nursing and care teams on safe handling, positioning, mobility goals and equipment needs for individual residents.

How Residents Access Our Services

Medical referrals: GPs, specialists and hospital teams refer to us directly. We coordinate care, communicate progress, and make sure rehabilitation joins up with the rest of their medical management.

ACC: We’re an ACC-registered provider, covering injuries from falls, fractures, post-surgical rehabilitation and other accidents. We handle the paperwork so residents and families don’t have to.

Privately Engaged: Many residents and families choose to engage us directly - for ongoing strength and conditioning, fall prevention, recovery from non-accident illness, or simply to maintain the active lifestyle they’ve worked hard to keep. No referral needed.

EMS-Accredited Mobility Aids Assessments: We are EMS (Equipment Management Service) accredited assessors for Health NZ–funded mobility equipment. That means we can assess residents for walking frames, wheelchairs and other mobility aids and arrange funded provision where they qualify.

Training Your Care Team

Strong handling skills protect residents, protect staff, and lift the standard of care across your whole facility. We deliver practical, on-site moving and handling training tailored to your residents, your
equipment and your environment - including non-clinical manual handling for kitchen, housekeeping, maintenance and admin teams.

Valuable insight for families

Families want to know: Is Mum getting weaker? Should Dad still be walking on his own? Is this the new normal, or can something be done?

We provide clear, honest answers. After every assessment, we sit down with families (in person, by phone or by video) to explain what we’ve found, what we recommend, and what realistic outcomes look like.

We help you understand:
• What’s changing and why
• What’s modifiable and what isn’t
• How to support your loved one between sessions
• When to be concerned, and when to be reassured
• How to plan for what’s ahead
This insight is often as valuable to families as the therapy itself.

Why Premium Facilities

Choose Us

25+ years working with adults 50+: This is what we do. We’re not a general physio practice that occasionally sees older clients - older adults are our specialty.

Certified in Modern Management of the Older Adult: Reflecting current best practice in geriatric rehabilitation, not outdated assumptions about what older bodies can do.

Members of Sports and Exercise Physiotherapy NZ: We bring the same rigour and ambition to an 85-year-old returning to the bowls green as we would to a younger athlete.

EMS-Accredited Mobility Aids Assessors: Authorised to assess for and arrange Health NZ–funded mobility equipment.

A Connected Care Team: We work with GPs, specialists, nursing teams, facility managers and families to deliver care that joins up.

Standards That Match Your Setting: We understand the expectations of premium facilities - discretion, professionalism, communication and clinical excellence - and we deliver to them consistently.
