Active Adults & Masters Athletes
Still competing. Still training. Still asking more.

You are not a contradiction. If you're still competing in sailing, cycling, triathlon, running or mountain sports in your 50s, 60s or beyond - the science supports you, and so do we.
Your body at 55 is not your body at 35 - and we won't treat it as if it were. We'll account for the hormonal shifts, changing recovery patterns, load history and clinical complexity that come with your stage of life, and build your programme around them.

"The goal is not to manage decline - it is to optimise the athlete you
are today."

At Physiotherapy Works, we understand this population because we are part of it. Our approach combines rigorous clinical expertise with genuine first-hand knowledge of what it means to train, compete and recover as an older athlete.
WHO THIS IS FOR
Complex by nature. Managed with precision.

You rarely arrive with a single, isolated problem - and we won't treat you as if you do. We'll assess your knee injury in the context of your osteoporosis risk. We'll build your return-to-sport plan around your cardiovascular profile. We'll design your training programme around your hormonal transition, not in spite of it.
We're trained to reason across multiple systems simultaneously - so that your care reflects the full picture of your health and performance, not just the part that brought you through the door. Our post-graduate training through the Institute of Clinical Excellence in the Modern Management of the Older Adult means we have the clinical tools to see you whole.

This is not generic physiotherapy applied to an older body. This is focused, evidence-based clinical practice designed from the ground up for the active adults.
OUR METHODOLOGY
Evidence-led. Athlete-informed.

01 Comprehensive Assessment
We'll take the time to understand your full medical history, training background, competitive goals and lifestyle - so that everything we do from that point is built around you, not a template.
02 Multi-System Clinical Reasoning
We're trained to assess and manage across cardiovascular, musculoskeletal,
neurological and hormonal systems - not in isolation, but together. You get a
clinician who sees the whole picture.
03 Individualised Programming
No templates. No generic protocols. Your rehabilitation and training plan is built around your specific presentation, goals, sport and schedule - then adapted as you progress.
04 Long-Term Performance Thinking
We're not here to get you through a single injury. We're here to help you build a body that supports decades more of sport and active living - with the clinical oversight to do it safely.

WOMEN'S HEALTH
Hormonal transition meets athletic performance

If you're an active woman navigating perimenopause, menopause or post-menopause, you've probably noticed that the standard advice doesn't account for what you're experiencing. We will. We'll integrate the current evidence on hormonal transition directly into how we assess, plan and progress your care.
We'll build your rehabilitation and training programme around the changes in tendon compliance, bone density, recovery capacity, neuromuscular function and pain sensitivity that come with hormonal transition — so that your programme works with your body as it is now, not against it.
For women who are active athletes, this is not a peripheral consideration. It is central to how we plan, prescribe and progress your care.

Areas of focus for active women over 50:
— Perimenopause and training load adaptation
— Menopausal symptom management through exercise
— Post-menopausal strength and bone health programming
— Tendon health across hormonal transition
— Osteoporosis assessment and evidence-based rehabilitation
— Optimising recovery in the context of hormonal change
— Return to sport following hormonal-related injury
CLINICAL PILATES
Precision movement. Clinical foundations.

Clinical Pilates here isn't a generic class - it's a movement intervention prescribed specifically for you, by a physiotherapist with advanced post-graduate training in older adult and performance rehabilitation.
Particularly valuable in the management of spinal conditions, post-surgical recovery, pelvic floor dysfunction and neuromuscular re-education, Clinical Pilates is integrated into your treatment plan where it is clinically indicated - not offered as a one-size-fits-all solution.
